Finding My Passion

Recently, I've had a few people say I should write a blog or a book full of all the crazy things I have to say. I just laughed the idea off because I'm by NO stretch of the imagination a writer (and we won't even talk about my grammar!). However, I came across this quote, "If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. Your passion will lead you right into your purpose." by T.D. Jakes. As it turns out, I have a rapidly growing passion to educate those who are ignorant about the special needs community. I want people to know that beauty comes in so many different forms. So this has become the purpose of my blog and I'm sure there will be plenty of random ranting posts about me hiding in my closet from my children thrown in as well!
This is my son Daniel and this is what someone whose mildly mentally retarded looks like. He also has ADHD and some sensory issues. He is beautiful and perfect just the way he is! The use of the word "retard" in a "joking" or "teasing" manner comes out of ignorance and I do find it hurtful. This beautiful boy and many others like him are the ones that are really being made fun of and being devalued as a human being. What I'd really like to do with this blog is to show you the many different faces of those with special needs and how they are beautiful, unique, and wonderful because they are a person just like the rest of us. I hope you'll enjoy this journey with me and I hope it will help people to realize that different is just that...no more, no less and it's certainly nothing to fear. Thank you for stopping by and reading.

Heather
